Do you feel the same way? Do you open the newspaper, turn on the radio or switch on the television and despair at the same moment as you are convinced on all these channels that the end of the world is imminent? Environmental disasters and war wherever you look … And as if there weren’t already enough horrors on our globe – every year, Christmas comes round again!
Invitations to buy on every corner, consumer and mulled wine frenzy, fairy lights and decoration irritations for the overstrained eye, “atmosphere!” & “contemplation!” in the heart, which is completely out of sync with the “quietest time of the year”, and – and this is probably the bitterest drop in the picksweet Christmas punch – the poor ear, usually defencelessly at the mercy of the environment, is mercilessly bombarded with acoustic phenomena that conjure up stars in some people’s eyes, which are glazed with emotion, and cold beads of panic sweat on others’ foreheads.
Wouldn’t you just like to escape from the global Christmas machinery altogether? Escape into the perfect world of the most beautiful hits of the 50s and 60s by Caterina, Vico, Connie and Peter, Udo and, of course, Peter the Great? I sometimes feel that way and that’s why this special evening exists.
Let’s forget the worries of the world for a short while and surrender to our most wistful dreams – so that afterwards we can face reality with renewed vigour! Schlager therapy, so to speak.
