Dominik Wagner & Lauma Skride

The double bass, often regarded as an oversized violin or member of the viola da gamba family, is the focus of the album “CHAPTERS – A Double Bass Story” by the young Viennese bassist Dominik Wagner. Wagner dedicates a passionate homage to the often underestimated instrument by presenting its many facets and expressive possibilities. The album, which has been released on the Berlin Classics label, includes works by various composers, including Schubert, Piazzolla and Rachmaninov. Each contribution on the album represents a separate chapter in the history of the double bass and demonstrates the versatility of the instrument in a musical context.

Wagner, who recorded the album together with pianist Lauma Skride, emphasises the importance of the collaboration and appreciates Skride’s versatility and brilliance. In the booklet, he shares his own thoughts and motivations for each piece, making the album a personal reflection on the double bass. This release is Wagner’s third album on the Berlin Classics label and follows previous successes such as “GASSENHAUER” and “REVOLUTION OF BASS”. With these albums and an impressive musical career, Wagner emphatically emphasises the cultural significance and richness of the double bass in music.
