Thomas Gansch Blasmusik Supergroup

Brass music has been experiencing a remarkable renaissance for two and a half decades and Mnozil Brass is not entirely uninvolved in this development. When we started in the early nineties, playing without sheet music was not a priority in most music clubs. That has changed drastically since then, because today there are countless small groups that have been formed in such clubs.

For about a decade now, the “Woodstock of brass music” has been celebrated at a steadily growing festival. It is reminiscent of big rock festivals, but exclusively with wind instruments and drums. But I often ask myself what we actually stand for. In Austria, hundreds of thousands of musicians have developed brass music from an outdated, ideologically questionable instrument into an everyday and positively utilised form of music.

Brass music is a lively way of coming together and a powerful means of integration, especially in times of social division. My “Supergroup” brings together musicians from various brass music groups such as the “Egerländer Musikanten”, “Mnozil Brass”, “Blechhauf’n”, “LaBrassBanda”, the “Wiener Philharmoniker”, VDB and the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra to show how great and versatile this music is and what it stands for.
