When the core repertoire of a string quartet does not include the corresponding oeuvre of Beethoven, Schubert or Bart\u00f3k, but instead the Weather Report hit “Birdland” is elicited from the strings, it is worth listening carefully. Whether Radiohead, “Strange Fruit”, a tribute to the Mahavishnu Orchestra, “Moon River” or the use of voice and electronics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An ensemble that, like the radio.string.quartet, draws on such diverse sources of inspiration and resolutely defies narrow-minded genre categorisation is good for many a surprise.
